Presence of Demodex in Seborrheic Dermatitis Lesions and its Relationship with Disease Severity: A Case Control Study

Objective: Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a common, chronic, recurring, inflammatory skin disorder. The cause of the disease still completely unknown. Recent studies suggest that Demodex parasites may play role in etiopathogenesis SD. purpose this study was, to investigate presence SD and its association with severity. Material Methods: A total 40 patients over age 18 years, who were clinically diagnosed SD, healthy control subjects included study. surface biopsy method was used detect on lesional non-lesional group. Dermatitis Area Severity Index calculate 5 or more per square centimeter considered positive. Results: While found 50% 2.6% patients, 12.5% group (p<0.001) had parasites. No relationship between severity index area. Conclusion: In study, we prevalent lesions than lesion-free skin. member microbiota, be predisposing factor development
